Description

Dyeing a beautiful skein starts with colour. Jacquard Acid Dye is a concentrated powdered dye for wool, silk and other animal fibres, including alpaca, mohair and cashmere. Nylon also takes up this dye, making it suitable for wool sock yarns containing nylon. The dye comes in 14-gram jars.

Choose one colour for a solid or gently shaded result, or mix different colours to create your own shades. On average, you will use approximately 1 gram of dye per 100 grams of undyed wool. This is a guideline: some intense colours require more dye, while very soft shades need much less.

The final colour depends on the yarn’s original colour, the amount of dye and your method. Start with a small test and record your quantities if you would like to recreate a colour later.

Use the dye in a hot dye bath with citric acid or vinegar. We prefer working with citric acid and also use Jacquard in our workshops.
