Cocoknits is a brand that feels as if it was born at a knitter’s worktable – and in many ways, it was. Based in Oakland, California, a small, women-led team designs knitting tools that are practical, beautiful, and a joy to use. Tools you’ll reach for again and again.
At the heart of Cocoknits is Julie Weisenberger: designer, knitter, and teacher. She learned to knit while studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria, and has been designing ever since. From running her own knitwear company in the 1980s to designing for yarn companies and magazines, her experience led her to found Cocoknits in 2007.
Every Cocoknits product starts with a genuine need. Julie designs tools to solve problems she encounters herself while knitting, fitting, and finishing garments. This practical mindset also led to the development of the Cocoknits Method — a distinctive top-down, seamless approach to sweater knitting that is now used and taught worldwide.
The same philosophy applies to the tools: functional, intuitive, and thoughtfully designed, without unnecessary extras. They support your making process and bring clarity and calm to your knitting.
Cocoknits is a small, woman-owned business that grows with intention. New products are only released when they truly add value. Quality always comes before quantity.

Wherever possible, Cocoknits uses environmentally friendly, recyclable, or reusable materials, and avoids traditional petroleum plastics when alternatives are available. When plastic is necessary, recycled options are preferred.
Not all products are made locally, and Cocoknits is transparent about this. A long-standing partnership in China allows the company to produce high-quality tools in small quantities, using the materials they value, while keeping the overall environmental impact in check. The company continues to refine and improve these processes.
